A lecture entitled “Our Unknown Native Ibrahim Safi” was held at the Azerbaijan National Art Museum
On June 22, 2024, a lecture entitled “Our Unknown Native Ibrahim Safi” was held at the Azerbaijan National Art Museum. My presentation was about the tumultuous and valuable life path of Ibrahim Safi, an artist of the 20th century who had a rich creative path and lived and created in the brotherly Republic of Turkey throughout his life. Through this lecture, the audience’s acquaintance with the outstanding artist was also dedicated to our people who lived an emigrant life and were separated from their homeland in these and other situations. It is very gratifying that our writers do not forget the masters of words who lived an emigrant life, and remember them in their research. We have many such artists and painters, and I believe that this topic and lecture will be of interest and will also be an impetus for the research of our intellectuals who lived an emigrant life. I express my deep gratitude to the esteemed Shirin khanum for the lecture held in the magnificent Sattar Bahlulzadeh Hall of the museum, and I thank her for the attention and care she has shown to art and art intellectuals. I express my deep gratitude to everyone who participated and spent their valuable time with us. I thank the museum staff for their help and professionalism. Be there! Talent and diligence have come together in the outstanding brush master Ibrahim Safi. This is confirmed by the thousands of unique works of art he has created. However, sometimes nature does not grant this perfection to its child. If we look only at the history of painting, we can see several examples that apply to this: Frida Kahlo's stubborn love of life and art, Van Gogh's constant travels and beautiful landscape paintings despite all the pain he experienced alone and his failure in art, Repin's stubborn work despite his withered hand, Monet's not letting go of the brush even after undergoing surgery on his eyes, and the outstanding artist Ibrahim Safi is among these examples. It is not visible to the artists we have listed, but the trauma that remains in his mind... He quenches the fire of his heart, burning with longing for his homeland, only by creating works: "A day when I do not paint is a day when I do not live for me." The artist did not raise philosophical problems in his works, nor did he even try to reach the "depth" of what he depicted. In his works, he sometimes left aside literary, mythological and historical plots, which are characteristic of academicism. Instead, he created the opportunity to see simplicity, beauty and modernity. In his works, the artist painted people - often in a state of movement, having fun or resting, and depicted the appearance of a certain place against a certain lighting background. No matter how many wars he saw, the main theme of his works was beauty, people and nature. As is characteristic of impressionism, he showed only the positive sides of life, did not touch on acute social problems. Dancing "gypsies", people sitting on the seashore, boat trips, beaches, gardens were his main themes. He was one of the first artists to paint his works outdoors, not in a studio. That is why Ibrahim Safi's works were of the etude type. He reflected beautiful moments on the canvas in one breath with the touch of a brush like a photographer. His works were an expression of historical moments... The styles and principles of the impressionism direction in fine arts are currently continued and developed by modern impressionists. After all, a person's desires for beauty, love, and happiness are an eternal feeling. As long as a person lives, the love of life within him also lives. Artists like Ibrahim Safi are able to convey these feelings to the viewer through their works. Modern impressionists also vividly and effectively portray a person's attachment to life in their works. All this necessitates the illumination of the creativity of the world-famous, outstanding artist, Rahman Safiyev, and the analysis and presentation of his works to the general public. The artist, burning with longing for his homeland, said near his death: “I do not feel happy. Nikolai and I had no money, we would eat fish between our bread, then I was very happy. Now I have no financial problems, I do not care about my illness, but I am not happy... Because the longing for the land of my birth will never leave me!”. Let us love our homeland! -‐------------------------------------------------------ On June 22, 2024, my lecture on the topic “Our unknown - native Ibrahim Safi” was held at the National Art Museum of Azerbaijan.
